MISSION NETWORK
The groups that are part of the VAPC Mission Network include: Calgary Drop-in Centre (through the Sandwich Makers),
Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS), English as a Second Language (ESL), Fair Trade Awareness,
Inn from the Cold, KAIROS Calgary Working Group on Homelessness and Affordable Housing, Meals on Wheels, Presbyterian World
Service & Development (PWS&D), Presbyterians Sharing, Presbyterian WomenlWMS, Refugee Support, Sunday-school Supported Missions,
Youth-supported Missions, and Youth in Mission.
In 2010 an effort was made to examine the activities ofthe Mission Network in order to capture any opportunities that may arise from
the VAPC building expansion. For example, the new Echo Speaker Series will be used as a way to communicate information about mission
to the congregation and the wider community. New mission projects are being considered and everyone is encouraged to do their part to help
VAPC live out its vision to be "One in Christ, Reaching Out to Many".
For the past few years, VAPC has been involved with a KAIROS Calgary Working Group to develop a project to help end homelessness in Calgary.
KAIROS Calgary has teamed up with the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) on the Acadia Place Project. Acadia Place is an apartment complex
purchased by CHF using funds from the Alberta Government. The complex is two buildings totaling 58 apartments on Heritage Drive SE that
is being used to provide affordable "housing first" homes to families who are at risk of being homeless. A milestone was reached in
2010 with the launch of a fundraising campaign to help pay down the mortgage at Acadia Place. This will allow for lower rents to make the
apartments more accessible to families in need.
