VAPC is a welcoming, friendly church family. Like all families, we are busy as we try to make our world a better
place, but we make a lot of time for joy and laughter here too. Please click on the "Upcoming This Week" button
to display events for the next seven days.
Life is challenging and personal burdens sometimes can be heavy. At VAPC, we strengthen each other in living Christian
lives and help each other through even the most difficult of times.
Rev. Dr. Bob Smith and Rev. Hector Rose are joined
by Elders and lay people in tending to pastoral needs. From visiting, to help with driving and food, to just sharing
some words of comfort or humour after Sunday worship, people find many ways to invest in each other's well-being here.
The support of this community of faith makes life easier and all our loads lighter.
Reaching out to Many
The congregation always has had a focus on giving back to its home communities. In addition to the community groups that
use the Church for group meetings, members are actively involved in mission work.
Our Mission Network coordinates service and outreach programs. We continue to host community childcare programs, and
English as a Second Language conversational classes.
Members make sandwiches for outreach programs and serve meals at
Inn from the Cold
. We work with the
Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS)
and support the
Mustard Seed Ministry
. A Mission Fund provides support to youth prepared to engage in international mission projects.
Children in Worship
Worship is, of course, the primary shared experience in a church family. At Varsity Acres, children are an engaged and celebrated part of
that experience.
Varsity Acres is committed to educating children in the life of the Christian Church including Bible studies, tradition and spiritual practice.
A delightlul and often funny highlight of worship is the "Children's Time". Children gather to sit with the minister at the front of the
church and discuss some aspect of the day's service, often with a story theme.
At the conclusion of "Children's Time", most children eagerly head off to Sunday School while their parents remain in the sanctuary to worship.
Twice each year, the children actually conduct the service, sharing with us the things they've learned and exercising their public speaking
skills.
Open Invitation
This Church is many things to many people. It is a place of community, worship, and refuge. It provides interesting and useful
programming - giving people of all ages engaging, useful things to do with their time. It gives those with a bent for public
service a chance to do some good in the world through service and mission.
If you are inclined to join us for fellowship or any of the programs we offer, or if you would like to assist in outreach and
mission, you are more than welcome here.
Whether you are looking for a church home or are just stopping in for an occasional service , you are invited to join us after
Sunday worship for coffee and fellowship in Scott Hall.
