Each year, Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church (VAPC) runs a campaign to raise funds in support of Presbyterians Sharing. This year's campain is called 'Gather'.
Our campaign goal continues to be VAPC's allocation for Presbyterians Sharing. This year our allocation is $36,519.
This week is our final week of the Gather Campaign. Please join us at the end of announcements on Sunday for a fun take on updating the campaign (including the final episode of 'The Gathers'. If you missed previous updates here they are:
Presbyterians Sharing is the national church fund that supports the mission and ministries we do together in Canada and around the world.
Presbyterians are sharing in a wide range of ministries from encouraging and equipping congregational renewal and development, to supporting inner city, native, refugee, urban, remote and chaplaincy ministries in Canada, to sending mission personnel to work with international partners.
The rest of this newsletter is focused on ways to support this campaign financially. But we can't ever lose sight of the gifts of prayer, energy, enthusiasm and support. These gifts are the simplest to give and they sustain our congregation and the work of Presbyterians Sharing.
Giving in the middle of a pandemic is a bit tricky. This following information hopefully helps you with your gift to the 2022 Gather Campaign at VAPC. All gifts will be directed to meeting our Presbyterians Sharing allocation for the year.
Each Wednesday we'll profile a particular way of giving. Let's look at Tithely
Through each of these weeks we have looked at the various pieces of the pie in the chart above. As you can see the two big pieces are the traditional cheque, followed by the electronic transfer (Interac). These are closely followed by pledges made and fulfilled. Oh, and let's not forget the Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) that will continue it's steady givings long after the Gather Campaign is over.
This leaves the last sliver on our chart - Tithe.ly online giving.
A tithe is defined as a tenth part of something paid as a voluntary contribution or as a tax especially for the support of a religious establishment [Source: Merriam Wesbster].
Well, don't be scared off by Tithe.ly online giving. It is simply an easy online option for giving that Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church set up way back at the beginning of the pandemic and can accept gifts of any size. What is interesting about Tithe.ly is that this service provider is focused exclusively on church giving. For instructions on how to set up an account and start giving online click here and you can download a 'How To' instruction manual.
The following sections provide some guidance as to how to make a gift.
Cheques are to be made out to "Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church". The memo field should state "Gather Campaign" and list your envelope number (if you have one).
Example: Gather Campaign - 172
Cheques can be dropped off at or mailed to the church (4612 Varsity Dr NW, Calgary, AB T3A 1V7)
If you have never sent an e-transfer to VAPC using your banking app, you will have to set up VAPC as a new recipient. The following information can be used to set this up.
Prior to sending your e-transfer the message field should state "Gather Campaign" and list your envelope number (if you have one).
Example: Gather Campaign - 172
Should you need help setting this up contact the office.
To complete your gift using PAR, please click the button to access the online form (which will open in a separate window).
A pledge is used when you wish to make a gift but will not be able to fulfill this wish during the regular campaign period, but will be able to fulfill this wish by the end of the year (2022).
Examples of when a pledge might be used are:
NOTE: Please do not make a pledge and then immediately give by another means (cheque, PAR, e-transfer, online). This causes additional work for the Envelope Secretary for they must contact you to ascertain whether the subsequent gift is in addition to the pledged amount.
