About HYMM

HYMM combines traditional melodies from around the world with modern compositions to create music that appeals to a wide audience. Based in Calgary, these musicians come from diverse backgrounds, with influences from jazz, blues, Klezmer, and western pop music. The group features the sound of the traditional Iranian Santur, traditional Kurd Turkish Saz and the Arabic Oud combined with violin, electric bass guitar, clarinet, saxaphone, percussion and vocals.

The group was founded in November 2015 by Bijan Maysami and Irfan Aydogdu.

Current members are Bijan Maysami (Santur,  Persian hammer dulcimer) Irfan Aydogdu (Saz player & vocals)Aya Mhana (Oud, vocals) Frank Rackow (clarinet, sax, vocals) Aqy Baba (percussion) Greg Goldenberg (electric bass) Paya Salem (violin) and Jaime Calderon (guitar)

HYMM performed at TEDxYYC Calgary at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in June 2017 and released it's first album at the Ironwood stage in September 2018. The group was also featured by CKUA at the MacDougall Centre for the launch of Alberta Music Week. HYMM has performed at Global Festival, Stampede, East Meets West, and other fundraising events in Calgary.

HYMM has released their debut recording , "The Colours of Peace" featuring original compositions as well as traditional melodies with a new twist. It was recorded by Lorrie Matheson.

Asmission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted. All are welcome

Regarding Covid protocols, we are following provincial requirements and masks are optional.

Bring a bag lunch and join a friend in Scott Hall after the concert. Coffee, tea and dessert will be provided.
