John was born and raised in Calgary, but has also lived in Saskatoon and Toronto. He has a BA from the University of Calgary, a Master of Theological Studies degree from St. Andrew’s College, and a PhD in Theology from the Toronto School of Theology, culminating in his dissertation, A Most Troublesome Text: Galatians 4:21-5:1 in the History of Interpretation. John has served several Anglican, Presbyterian, and United Church congregations in both Calgary and Ontario.
After completing his doctoral dissertation in 2015, he returned to Calgary to take up his position as Director of Christian Education with VAPC, where he has enjoyed opportunities for getting people to engage with the biblical text at whatever stage of life they are at. To keep up his sanity, he likes cycling, hiking, travelling, gardening, drawing, and playing with clay.
